10/31 Adams exits playoffs with a loss to Brother Rice
Game Photo
The Rochester Adams Highlanders ended their 2008 season with another epic battle against Brother Rice on Halloween Night. Adams came up on the short end of a 28-21 classic between these two State Powerhouses. The only ghost or goblin in Highlander Stadium on this night was from the fan base, what took place on the field was hardnosed football that came right down to the wire. Brother Rice scored the deciding touchdown with 17 seconds remaining in the game to seal the victory. Brother Rice took the opening kickoff and culminated a 15 play drive with a 3 yard run to go up 7-0 with 4:09 remaining in the 1st quarter. Adams did not waiver by the score, starting their opening drive at their own 20 yard line. A quarterback keeper by Andrew Waszak for 18 yards was followed by a pitch left to Tyler Martin for 10 more yards, to set up Adams on their own 48 yard line. A 17 yard completion to Cody Wilson on 3rd down set up the Highlanders at the Brother Rice 28. ...More

10/24 Adams closes out regular season with 42-7 victory over Rochester
The Rochester Adams Highlanders finished the 2008 regular season in grand fashion with a convincing 42-7 win over the Rochester Falcons on Friday October 24th. A cold, rainy and dreary night was the setting at Rochester High situated on the corner of Walton and Livernois Roads. The game was still close at halftime with Adams up by two touchdowns, but the Highlanders caught fire though in the second half and pulled away to seal the victory. Rochester took their opening possession from their own 15 yard line and drove to the Adams 5. On a 3rd and goal from the 5, Michael Sirosky recovered a fumble to give the ball to Adams without giving up points. Quarterback Andrew Waszak completed a long pass to Joe Reynolds, who made a circus catch at the Rochester 38 yard line. The drive stalled from there though, forcing a Highlander punt. ...More

10/23 JV Wrap season undefeated with 13-6 win over Rochester
Game Photo
2008 Undefeated JV Team and Coaches
The JV Highlander football team came into this week trying to keep a two year undefeated streak alive. The cross town rival Rochester Falcons came to Highlander stadium which not only means going against friends and past teammates, but the last game of the season. The Falcons led at half time but the Highlanders turned it on in the second half and beat the rival Falcons 13 to 6. For the second year in a row the Highlanders finished the season 9 and 0. As he had done all year long Lucas Gosser kicked off the game with a booming kick. The Falcon s would start their first drive of the evening from their own 37 yard line. The Falcons were unable to get anything going and on fourth and six the Falcons punted the ball down to the Highlanders three yard line were they took over first and ten. The first three Highlanders carries went for short yardage and on fourth and six the Highlanders were forced to punt. ...More

10/23 Falcons edge Freshmen Highlanders, 13-7
Game Photo
Cullen Conner recovers a Rochester fumble
To the surprise of few, the season ending tilt between the cross town rival Rochester Falcons was a hard-hitting and exciting game. In front of a large, cheering crowd at Highlander Stadium the freshman Falcons prevailed 13-7 to complete their first undefeated season in 19 years. It was obvious from the start that the Rochester game plan was simple: get the ball in the hands of running back Cody Devoe as much as possible. The Falcons received the ball to start the game. Adams defenders Michael Fisher and Jack Sichenender made a solid first impression swarming Devoe for a loss of 7 on the games first play. However on 3rd down and 7, Devoe ripped off an 18 yard run for a first down. The Falcons continued to move the chains, however Adams defenders Nathan Bristow and Jared Simard made some great open field tackles. ...More

In the end, Lake Orion emerged on top with a 34-28 win in a game that was back and forth until late in the contest. 10/16 JV Defeats Lake Orion 30-0
This week the JV Highlander football team traveled up the road to take on their long time rivals to the north, the Lake Orion Dragons. This game was dedicated to team mate and honorary captain, #40 Dillon Cope, who was unable to attend due to health reasons. Co-captain Alec Trumble wore #40 as a tribute to Dillon. Dillon, the Adams football family is thinking of you and wishes you a speedy recovery. As he has done all year long, Lucas Gosser kicked off the game and Mack Fisher made a nice tackle to put the Dragons on their 30 yard line. On their first possession the Dragons went three and out. On the punt return Darrian Bell took the ball 22 yards to give the Highlanders good field position. The Highlanders turned to the running game to move the ball. Runs by Jordan Gowman and Chris Young set up Darrian Bell 2 yard run for the game’s first touchdown. The kick by Jake Boyle was good and just that quick the Highlanders led the Dragons 7 to 0. ...More

10/16 Adams Freshman roll past Lake Orion, 49-19
Following last weeks big win against long-time OAA rival Farmington Harrison, the Adams Freshman football team posted another big win over long-time rival Lake Orion with a resounding 49-19 victory. Once again the freshman Highlanders executed a powerful running game, consistently knocking out five and six yard runs, highlighted by two long touchdown runs of 67 and 96 yards. Defense and special teams continued to play solid football, and most importantly with several Highlanders on the injured list all 37 members of the team are contributing. Just like the Harrison game, Lake Orion started with a strong opening drive. On 3rd down 8, Lake Orion executed a picture perfect screen pass that looked a sure 65 yard touchdown. Several Adams defenders pursued the play and prevented the touchdown with a tackle on the Adams 13 yard line. Two plays later it was heartache for Lake Orion as Nathan Bristow recovered a Dragon fumble on the Adams 11 yard line. ...More

10/10 Adams Keeps Unbeaten Streak Alive with Win over Harrison 32-14
Coach John Herrington from Farmington Hills Harrison is a coaching legend in the State of Michigan. He has produced state titles, many records and several players that have gone on to prominence in the college and professional ranks. A 3 loss season for the coach and his Harrison Hawks though, would be unchartered waters for the team from Farmington. Coach Patritto was well aware of how badly Harrison needed a win for many reasons, including an entry into the State playoff tournament. Patritto, in his tenure at Adams, has built a first class program and a reputation of his own, including that of a great offensive mind. This game had all the makings of a classic showdown, even though on paper it would appear Adams would have an advantage. In the end Adams pulled off a 32-14 win in a contest that was close for a good part of the game. Harrison started the game at their 26 yard line and promptly gained a first down on a 13 yard pass completion. ...More

10/8 JV comes back to beat Farmington 35-21
This week on co-captain, Alec Trumbles 16th birthday, the JV Highlander football team took on the Hawks from Farmington Harrison. We just can’t get away from the bird thing. The Hawks came into Highlander stadium unbeaten as did the Highlanders, both posting records of 6-0. For the first time this season the Highlanders fell behind but in the end their offense and defense both came up with big plays when they needed them to pull out the victory 35 to 21. The Highlanders Lucas Gosser kicked off the game with a good kick only to have it returned to the Adams 27 yard line. A block in the back penalty hurt the Hawks field position moving the ball all the way back to their 33 yard line. The Highlander defense started off well and after honorary captain Mario Roveda sacked the quarterback the Hawks were forced to punt. The Highlanders took over on their 47 yard line. ...More

10/8 Highlanders down the Hawks, 35-7
In a big match up against long-time rival Farmington Harrison, the Rochester Adams Freshman footballers put together their most consistent game of the season in route to a resounding 35 to 7 victory. The Adam offense started the game and while they moved the chains to gain one first down, the Highlanders turned the ball over on downs to Hawks. Farmington Harrisonʼs offensive highlight for the day occurred on their first possession knocking out a 59 touchdown run with 5:41 remaining in the fist quarter giving Harrison a 7-0 lead over Adams. The Highlander veer offense went back to work churning out yards on their second possession highlighted with fourth down run by Corey Clemons to move the chains. David Jagow also picked up big yards on the support of blocks of Jarred Simard and Jack Sicheneder. The Adams drive stalled with a 3rd down pass that just missed the out-reached fingertips of a diving John Neidhart in the end-zone. ...More

10/3 Highlanders Throttle Seaholm 49-3
The Rochester Adams Highlanders treated their homecoming crowd to a 49-3 win over Birmingham Seaholm on Friday October 3rd. The Highlanders were hitting on all cylinders, as they seemingly could do whatever they wanted, whenever they need it, on offense, defense and special teams. To the Maples credit they hung tough all night, displaying their talent that many D1 schools have noticed. Chad Gierak started the night with a big hit on the opening kickoff, forcing Seaholm to start their offense at their own 23 yard line. Aaron Taylor and Cody Wilson broke up pass attempts, and Gierak and Matt Rea combined to stuff a run, prompting a Seaholm punt. Adams went to work on offense at the 50 yard line. A 6 yard completion to Joe Reynolds was followed by a 13 yard run by quarterback Andrew Waszak, following the blocking of Christian Babini and Michael Barber. Michael Sirosky made a thunderous trap block, which freed Beau Barterian to run to the Seaholm 9 yard line. ...MoreGame Photo

Adams Beat Southfield in a Thriller 28-26 The Rochester Adams Highlanders took their high flying offensive act to Southfield for a showdown with the Blue Jays on Friday September 26th. Both of these teams were 4-0 coming into the contest as fans were treated to a wild and exciting game. Both coaching staffs needed Tums I am sure to settle the queasiness from the rollercoaster ride this game presented. Adams went up 19-0 until Southfield scored 26 unanswered points. The Highlanders scored in the 3rd quarter and topped it off with the winning field goal in the 4rth, but not before Southfield put up a late charge in an attempt to win the game. Kevin Rohner kicked off the game and Lloyd Reeves made a big hit to pin Southfield back at their own 16 yard line for their first series. A long run by Southfield was brought back by a holding penalty, and Michale Barber made a good tackle on 3rd down forcing a Blue Jay punt. ...More

9/25 JV tame the Blue Jays of Southfield 32-14
Another week another bird? This week the undefeated JV Highlanders football team took on the undefeated Blue Jays from Southfield High School in the friendly confines of Highlander Stadium. After a late start, this game would prove to be much more entertaining and much closer than the score would indicate. In the end, even though the Highlanders only led by five points with 7 minutes remaining, the Highlanders defeated the Jay Hawks 32-14. As he seems to do every week Lucas Gosser started the game with a nice kick. Southfield started the game with the ball on their 30 yard line. On the very first play Southfield showed they were going to do what has kept them undefeated thus far and that was run the ball. The Southfield running back #20 did what he would do quite often throughout the evening and that was run the ball, this time for a nice 25 yard gain before being forced out of bounds by Chris Young. ...More

9/25 Adams Frosh roll past Southfield, 35-6
In another sunny, warm day of football in front of a cheering crowd at Adams Stadium, the Rochester Adams Freshman Highlanders came prepared and downed a challenging Southfield Bluejay team, 35-6. With a winning streak now at four, the Freshman Highlanders have shaken off some early season rust and played their most consistent game of the season. The Bluejays started the game with their spread-offense, highlighted with multiple wide-receiver and shot-gun formations. They moved the chains on their first possession, but some key tackles by Cullen Conner and Nathan Bristow forced a punt. Adams was sluggish on their first offensive possession and punted the ball back to Southfield. The Bluejay offense was hurt by multiple penalties during the next possession, eventually finding themselves in a 3rd down and 36 situation and eventually forced to punt. A ten yard return by Alex Borglin put the ball on the Highlander 41 yard line. ...More

9/19 Adams dominates Groves in 52-14 victory
Game Photo
The Highlander machine took their high flying offensive act to Birmingham racking up big yardage and a stiff defense to preserve their unbeaten streak at 4 games in this young 2008 season. Not much went wrong on this night as the mighty Highlanders had their way early and often. Groves displayed grit by playing hard to the end and scored twice in the second half. Adams started the first offensive possession of the game on their own 33 yard line. Michael Barber scampered 14 yards to the 47, followed by a couple of Andrew Waszak runs giving Adams 1rst and 10 at the Groves 26. On a 4rth and 10 Waszak found Cody Wilson for a Touchdown strike to give Adams a 7-0 early lead after a George Patsarikis extra point. Matt Rea’s thunderous hit on the ensuing kickoff put Groves on their own 25 for their first offensive series of the game. Tackles by Christian Babini and Rea stalled the Groves drive, giving Adams 1st and 10 at their 36. ...More

9/17 JV Shuts out Groves 40 - 0.
For the second week in a row the JV Highlanders football team took on the Falcons. This week the game was at home and the Falcons were from Birmingham Groves High School. This Falcons teams uniforms may have been different but the outcome of the game was the same. The Highlanders again dominated the game on both sides of the ball and for the second week in a row shut out the Falcons 40 to 0. The Highlanders Lucas Gosser kicked off the game with a great kick and no return from the Falcons. The Falcons started deep in their own territory on the 23 yard line. After tackles for a loss by Mario Roveda and Darrian Bell and an incomplete pass the Falcons had to punt on 4th and 16. The kick went off the side of the punters foot and the Highlanders took over on the Falcons 31 yard line. On the third play from scrimmage, quarterback Alec Trumble, took the ball 12 yards for the first touchdown of the game. ...More

9/17 Adams Frosh down Groves, 21-8
The Rochester Adams Highlander Freshman footballers extend their winning streak to three taking down the Birmingham Grove Falcons 21-8. On a picture perfect day for football, Groves received the ball and started deep in their own territory. The Adams defense, with strong tackling by Jack Sicheneder, Jared Simard and Adam Boike, quickly backed Groves into a 3rd down and 22 and forced a punt. Jeff Andrews returned the Groves punt 18 yards down to the Groves 28 yard line but it was called back on an Adams holding penalty. The Adams offense gained some tough yards on the running of David Jagow but turned the ball over on downs at the Adams 49 yard line. The Groves offense took over and their quarterback moved the chains on 3rd and 11 with a nice run down the Groves sideline. The Adams defense held with safety Nicholas Theoret breaking up a 3rd down pass attempt. After the Groves punt the Adams offense started on its own 18 yard line. ...More

This was a close game last year but this year the Falcons were no match for the JV Highlanders. The Highlanders easily beat the Falcons 40 to 0. The Falcons took the opening kickoff and started their first offensive possession on their own 20 yard line. The Falcons began moving the ball quickly with a 32 yard pass and a 15 yard run on consecutive plays. After a few short gains, a Highlander penalty gave the Falcons a first down. The Highlander defensive then tightened up and after Alec Trumble and Darrian Bell both had tackles for loss, the Falcons turned the ball over on downs. The Highlanders started their opening drive from their own 20 yard line. ...More

9/11 Freshmen take Farmington 41-21
Game Photo
Playing their second road consecutive road-game, the Rochester Adams Highlander Freshman footballers got off to a lightning fast start in route to a convincing 41-21 victory over a determined Farmington Falcons squad. Under bright, sunny skies the Highlander offense quickly marched down the field on their opening drive scoring on a 32 yard pass from QB Corey Clemons to John Neidhart. The opening drive was kept alive with a 3rd down and nine pass from Clemons to Kyle Pelayo and a strong fifteen yard run by halfback Nicholas Theoret. The two-point conversion on a Clemons toss to Pelayo gave the Highlanders an 8-0 lead at the 8:18 mark in the first quarter. Big stops from linebackers Nathan Bristow and Cullen Conner helped Adams to stuff the Hawks offense on their first possession. The Highlander offense enjoyed great field possession on their second possession starting on their own 49 yard line. ...More

9/5 Highlanders Tame Cougars with 56-21 Win in First Cross- Town Showdown
Game Photo
The Rochester Adams Highlanders beat the Stoney Creek Cougars in the first ever meeting between these two teams by the score of 56-21 on Friday September 5th. You could hear the whispers, the ears were ringing and hair standing on end as plenty of talk from the fan base was around town leading up to this game. The upstart Cougars wanted to set their own mark in almost little brother fashion, as they have grown tired of all the attention and praise showered on the Highlanders the past few years. Adams had too many weapons on offense and stiffened on defense answering questions raised the week before at Clarkston, a big contributor was Cody Wilson. Cody proved the pre-season praise on him was well deserved as he was all over the field and contributed to many of the Adams scores with his feet, his hands, and believe it or not, throwing arm. Wilson’s presence was felt immediately, intercepting a pass on Stoney’s first possession. ...More

9/4 Inaugural JV-Stoney Creek Game is Shutout
Week two of the season meant the first bus ride for the team and where better to go than across town to beautiful Stoney Creek High School. This is the beginning of a cross town rivalry between the Highlanders and Cougars and for many of the players it’s the first chance they get to play against friends and old team mates. The Highlanders won its second game in a row after a great defensive showing. For the second game in a row the Lucas Gosser started the game with a good kick. The Cougars started their first offensive possession on their own 35 yard line. After two plays and no yards, Highlanders Captain, Alec Trumble, sacked the quarterback and the Cougars where forced to punt on fourth and twenty two. After a good punt and no return Adams, started on their own 49 yard line. The Cougar defense held strong and after three plays the Highlanders were forced to punt. The Cougars started their next drive deep in their own territory on the 18 yard line. ...More

9/4 Adams Frosh shut-out Stoney Creek, 19-0
The Adams Highlanders Freshman footballers notched their first win of the season blanking host Stoney Creek Cougars in the first-ever match-up between these cross-town schools. Once again the Highlanders got off to a fast start with David Jagow running for daylight behind the solid blocking up-front by Nathaniel Bristow and Cullen Conner on the left-side, including one run of 40 yards which carried the Highlanders deep into Cougar territory. The Stoney Creek defense held tight and kept the Highlanders off the scoreboard. Adam's second drive was stopped after a holding call nullified an amazing sideline pass completion from quarterback Corey Clemons to Kyle Pelayo on a 4th down and 17 to-go. Both teams traded possessions with the ball staying in the Stoney Creek side of the field. The Highlander defense recorded key stops from Michael Fisher, Jeff Andrews and a big-time sack by Kyle Pelayo, assisted by Dre Pipkens. ...More

8/29 Adams Opens 2008 Season with 47-40 Shootout win in Clarkston
Adams opened up its 2008 Football season with a wild 47-40 win over Clarkston on Friday August 29th. In the four meetings between these two teams under Coach Patritto you can count on a couple of things to be true. One, both teams come into this game highly ranked in their conference, Oakland County and sometimes the State of Michigan. Two- there always seems to be some surprises. A highly anticipated season opener in 2004 proved too good a matchup to complete in one night. Mother Nature wanted to see the game extended and did so by rolling a severe thunderstorm over Clarkston stadium, cancelling the second half of the game that was finished the next day. Adams won that game 28-7, and has split the past four matchups with Clarkston coming into the game last night. ...More

The day has come that most of us have been waiting for all summer. The start of the 2008 football season was finally here. The weather was clear and cool for a summer evening. The Adams Highlanders JV Football wanted to keep their winning streak alive from their undefeated freshman season and did just that with a convincing win over the Clarkston Wolves 33-7. The Highlanders won the toss. Captains Jake Boyle, Jordan Gowman and Alec Trumble chose to defer and Lucas Gosser kicked off the 2008 season. The Wolves started the first drive on their own 30 yard line with a couple of big plays. But after 4 consecutive plays losing yards they had to punt. The punter put a knee down on the snap and the Highlanders took over on the Wolves 30 yard line. On 3rd down slot back, Darrian Bell, ran 26 yards for the year’s first touchdown. The point after was blocked. Highlanders 6 Wolves 0. After another good kick The Wolves started on their own 35 yard line. ...More

Late rally falls short Freshman edged by Clarkston, 13-7 On a sunny, warm day at Highlander Stadium a thrilling late fourth quarter charge by the Adams freshman gridders came up short with an end-zone interception with 49 seconds remaining and the Adams freshman gridders fell short to the Clarkston Wolves 13-7. Coach Matt Spierling’s team played hard in the season opener but couldn’t overcome two big-plays by Clarkston. The Highlanders started the game strong with hard-runs by David Jagow, John Neidhart and Alex Borglin. A 45 yard punt by Alex Borglin and tough defense helped keep the ball on the Clarkston side of the field for the majority of the first quarter. The second quarter continued with a strong Adams running game that pounded the Clarkston defense; however they couldn’t crack the end-zone. At the 7:00 minute mark, Clarkston broke the scoreless tie on a nifty 50 yard run. ...More

New Beastmaster Record Set!

The Beastmaster participants hold up '23' in recognition of the new team record
Photo: Derrick Franco

Joe Reynolds broke the Beastmaster record with 23 flights and 13 seconds to spare...pretty amazing.

According to Jack Beall, "We also had 79 guys earn the Beastmaster

award this year, which is awesome. We also have 5 boys who have established themselves as "Beastmaster", meaning they earned the award all four years of high school: Nick Corby, Joe Reynolds, Nick Montes, Ryan Crocenzi, and J. Wentzloff. Also, Marc Benaquisto did something that is unprecedented in earning his "5th" Beastmaster award having started participating when he was still in eighth grade"

The preliminary Lift-a-Thon results are in...we still have about 10 kids to lift on Tuesday for a makeup day...today was quite impressive with 64 participants, standouts include the following:
Lightweight Division---Nick Montes currently holds first place with a lift of 205lbs.
Middleweight Division---Cody Wilson ties for 3rd place All-Time with a lift of 285.  We currently have a three-way tie for 2nd place and will require a "lift-off" on Tuesday between Lloyd Reeves, Joey Tuchman, and Marc Benaquisto at 245 lbs.
Heavyweights---the BIG DOGS came out this year...we had 8 lifts of 275 or more in this division. Christian Babini will "get his name on the board" for 3rd place with a lift of 315lbs.  Kevin Markey is now in sole possession of 2nd place All-Time with a lift of 325, and Jordan Sanders shatters the old record and now has the overall ALL-TIME record lift of 345lbs.!!!!
it was a great day...final results will be determined Tuesday.

3/08 Silent Auction a Success!  Many thanks to the Silent Auction Committee, helpers and the generous donors and bidders.  It is through the Silent Auction that we raise the funds to pay for the extra assistant coaches, defray costs of uniforms, weight equipment, etc.  It was great night, with many interesting and exotic auction items (how about a drive on a road course in a Lamborghini? A round of golf with John Kitna?)

Thanks too, to Mr. Jim Ferden and the Adams Marching Band, who stopped by for a few numbers before dinner last night.  It was a great surprise and got everyone thinking about that first home game of the 2008 season!
